As the owner of Sumner Cladding, I am excited to unveil our recently refurbished Oneroa bach. Our project showcases a unique take on Waiheke stonework and demonstrates our dedication to excellence and creativity. I'm thrilled to showcase and discuss our renovation, hoping to inspire and guide others considering Waiheke Stone masonry.
Like most homeowners on Waiheke Island, we thought we would use the local rock. Unfortunately, we soon discovered that the local Hoporata Quarry produced primarily metal roading aggregate. Any stone masonry would be a byproduct, with two further complications: clients waited 2-4 years for supply, and the colour had recently changed to a pinkish-white-grey—not what we envisioned. I wanted to start laying the stone ASAP, so we approached our suppliers overseas about an alternative solution.
Two months later, we were thrilled to receive the delivery. The stone was fantastic, but we needed to enhance the stonemasonry further. On-site, we carefully incorporated pieces of the local Waiheke Stone hand-selected from the Hoporata Quarry. The quarry staff were incredibly patient and helpful during this process, and their support was invaluable. The result is a stunning testament to our dedication to quality. We are proud to say that SUMNER's version of Waiheke Stone has been approached for four other projects on the island this year, including one in Whitford.
